Our Role

The Réseau du mieux-être francophone du Nord de l’Ontario (Réseau) has two roles. It is a Francophone Health Network (federal) and a French Language Health Planning Entity (provincial). Although Networks and Entities differ in their fields of action, accountability and funding, they have a similar objective of creating unique opportunities for partnership and a synergistic effect for our communities.

Francophone Health Network (Réseau) – Federal

The Réseau du mieux-être francophone du Nord de l’Ontario (Réseau) is one of 16 members of Société Santé en français (SSF) and has been receiving technical and financial support since 2003.

The member networks work with partners who wish to improve access to French-language health services in provinces and territories where French is not the language of a majority of the population. The SSF networks’ actions are based on a collaboration with the following partners:

  • Healthcare professionals;
  • Government bodies;
  • Administrators of healthcare institutions;
  • Training institutions; and
  • Community organizations.

French Language Health Planning Entity – Provincial

Ontario’s French Language Health Planning Entities are mandated by the Ministry of Health to improve access to French Language Health Services. The Réseau du mieux-être francophone du Nord de l’Ontario (Réseau) was named the French Language Health Planning Entity for Northern Ontario in 2010. The Réseau advises local health authorities on all matters related to the health of Francophones.

As an entity, the Réseau is responsible for making recommendations to Health Ontario North. The roles and responsibilities of the Health Ontario and Entities were revised and clarified in November 2017 :

A funding and accountability agreement outlines the responsibilities of each party. Priorities and activities are identified through a Joint Action Plan (JAP).
