The Question of the Season
Spring 2026
Background information for the question
In February 2026, the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages published the report Breaking Down Language Barriers in Health Care. In it, the committee highlights that health inequalities come at a very real cost – and that, all too often, it is official language minority communities that bear the brunt of this.
When there is no meaningful access to or active offer of health services in French, the consequences can be far-reaching. Thank you for sharing your experience and your views, which are essential to better understanding the realities on the ground and advancing solutions.

Fall 2025
Background information for the question
As the first step in its $2.1 billion primary care action plan, the province has committed to connecting the 235,000 people on the Health Care Connect waiting list as of 1 January 2025 with a family doctor or primary care team by spring 2026. As of early October, the original waiting list has been reduced by half, and the province is on track to meet this commitment.
